Embracing the Multi-Passionate Life

Updated: Dec 13, 2024

Why You Don’t Have to Choose:

Owning Your Multi-Passionate Self in Life and Business

Have you ever felt like your many passions pull you in different directions, making it hard to define your purpose? I know that feeling well. For years, I struggled to reconcile my love for coaching, creativity, parenting, and running a homestead. Society often tells us to “specialize,” but what I’ve learned is that being multi-passionate isn’t a weakness—it’s a superpower.

The Reality of a Multi-Passionate Life: I’ve been mentoring, coaching, and educating in some form for over 15 years—whether in athletics, leadership, or business. My current work as a creativity, play and strategy mentor for business owners, leaders and organizations that are stuck - feels like the culmination of all my passions, BUT it wasn’t always clear how to combine them.

For a long time, I thought I had to compartmentalize. I’d wear my “businesswoman” hat one moment, my “homesteader” hat the next, and my “mom” hat whenever I had a spare second. But the truth is, you don’t need to separate these identities. They are all a part of you, and I’ve learned that I can weave all these roles into a cohesive, joyful life.

Learning to Trust the Process: When I went all-in on my coaching business in 2020, I thought I knew the direction I was heading. Yet, as I leaned into my multi-passionate nature, I realized my journey wasn’t linear—it was a winding path. I’ve embraced this by prioritizing both joy and strategy, crafting a business that reflects all parts of me.

Practical Steps to Embrace Your Multi-Passionate Nature:

  1. Clarify Your Why: My why has always been about creating freedom and flexibility for my family and myself. Identifying your why gives direction to your passions.

  2. Integrate, Don’t Compartmentalize: Instead of choosing one path, think about how your interests can complement each other. For me, the lessons from homesteading often inspire my coaching work.

  3. Give Yourself Permission: It’s okay to change direction or explore new things. Your passions are valid, even if they don’t fit into a traditional mold.

Owning your multi-passionate nature is a gift. It can also be a slippery slope to overwhelm if you don't have clarity on your why!

You get to allow yourself to pursue what lights you up, you create a life and business that feels authentically you. Don’t let anyone tell you to choose—lean into all of who you are and watch the magic unfold.
